About the Author

Brad Hinkel is an experimental photographer, software designer and teacher. He combines chemistry & digital technology, silver & ink, film & tin cans to produce images of the common and the unusual.  Brad’s photographic work is designed to challenge the validity of what we think of as real; starting from the false supposition that film images are more real than digital ones, Brad now attempts to challenge the basic assumptions that things that we see are real. Brad uses high quality 4x5 film cameras, pinhole cameras and digital equipment to create images that challenge our perceptions.

Brad was essential in developing the digital photography programs at both the Rocky Mountain School of Photography (RMSP) and the Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW). He was hired at RMSP to help create all of their original digital classes and has created and taught dozens of different classes at their program. Brad continues to teach at RMSP in their Digital Intensive program. Brad also developed the full curriculum of digital photography courses for PCNW ranging from basic photography to digital black & white classes. Brad is extremely successful at making digital technology accessible for photography students and works to make this technology be a positive movement in 21st century photography. Brad has also written ‘The Focal Easy Guide to Photoshop CS2’ & 'Digital Negatives' both published by Focal Press.

Brad currently works at a very large software company in the Seattle area; attempting to improve the next generation of Graphic Design tools.
